abutter

Abutter – synonym for neighbour – ensures that customers never miss a parcel delivery to their private address anymore. The system combines online shoppers, who want their delivery as fast as possible but are out for work and not at home, and their neighbours who are at home (e.g. for parental leave, as senior citizen or in home office). The nearby available neighbour is found by utilization of satellite-based local allocation. The election can be done prior to shipment, i.e. during checkout at an online store, or even in real-time while delivery from the depot to home. Besides abutter, the online shoppers (get their delivery right away), the neighbours (get rewarded for receiving the parcels), the parcel services (are able to deliver on first try) and online merchants (rely on timely delivery) will benefit. Even drones are supported because the neighbours are able to open the door to collect the delivery from them. Abutter is a C2C marketplace matching consumers and their neighbours. The neighbourhood gets into focus and the people care about the people living beside. By accepting parcels neighbours get compensation and can secure additional income. Abutter will unite neighbours all over the world and foster mutual trust and is part of the share economy. Abutter – parcel delivery on first try via nice neighbours nearby!

ANYFIT

ANYFIT is the first nationwide (Germany) mobile booking system for a large variety of fitness and sporty spare time activities. Users can search for fitness activities in their vicinity via their mobile phone. If there is a special need or interest, the user can filter the results for price, distance and type of sport. Each gym/vendor has his own profile page. After researching the vendors, the user makes his buying decision. After booking his single ticket he receives a unique QR-Code. This code gets scanned by the vendors via Webcam or Smartphone.

ANYFIT receives a fee for every booking. Our customers are people who want to stay active and live a healthy lifestyle. They want to try and discover new activities, no matter where they are. At the same time they want to stay independent (no contractual commitments).
ANYFIT is located Leipzig, Germany. Our team consist of 3 members (Jonas Heinroth, René Breckau and Mathias Kahl) and we are working on this project since September 2014.

Bat Sharing

Launch the bat signal! Bat Sharing is an aggregator of all the car-sharing services in town. No more switching between the providers’ apps, and many more features! How cool!

The project started with Emiliano and Serena, cyclists. It completed its first city launch in Milan February 2014. A few months later Alberto joined the team and the adventure. We are an Italian team in our early 30s, all product oriented that collaborated on other projects in the past. Emiliano is a full stack developer with more than ten years of experience in the IT.

He has start-up experiences as founder and main developer / CTO both in Milan and Berlin. In the last three years he is focusing more on mobile/wearables than web.

Serena graduated at Politecnico di Milano, great traveler and dreamer with a passion for designing and building. She had work experiences in interior, graphic and interaction design between Italy, Finland and Germany.

Alberto is an Informatics Engineer (UNIBG), a passionate developer. He worked for four years in Mediaset in the R&D department as software architect; he mostly developed widget for smart tv and mobile applications.

bencloud

A preceding research project of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) had the goal to develop an environmental measurement device that can be used for on-site analysis of contaminated soil. The outcome in 2013 was a lightweight, handheld and battery operated analytical device for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOC). The innovative device was awarded several times; for example by winning the 2014 INNOTECH business plan competition. In November 2014 the startup bentekk was incorporated by the two TUHH and NIT alumni Matthias Schmittmann and Johannes Weber.

Based on a deep understanding of the market of portable environmental measurement devices, the team plans to create an additional service: the cloud-based web platform bencloud will display, enhance and connect measured data in a seemly way. First for bentekk’s device, in a second step for other measurement devices. A more visionary perspective foresees the possibility to connect many devices over the web platform in an intelligent manner. The sensor data can be used to create profiles about contamination of sites or even whole cities.

BI-IG

The BIIG project aims to create a new kind of business intelligence software specialised in data exploration and visualization.

The idea came up while chilling after work and talking about the Business Intelligence environment. We discovered that during our work in this segment we faced the same weaknesses and problems. While an active exchange of first-hand experience we decided that it is about time to change the concept of Business Intelligence.

We believe that it is time to not only improve but revolutionise the way we handle data. We want to bring the 3rd dimension into our thinking pattern by using the latest technologies.

With the complete system the user will be able to fully understand the characteristic of the data he or she is working on in much less time than receiving the information in conventional ways like reading or calculating.

binee

Growing cities, increasing amount of waste and environment pollution are the main challenges our team is tackling. Binee is an innovative concept that enables recycling to create smarter and greener cities around the world! The core of our system is to motivate and educate people about recycling by making the whole process of waste separation fun and rewarding. We successfully achieve this idea by combining the concept of Internet of Things and Gamification, two current megatrends that are changing the way we use objects in our environment. We would like to see no waste and more fun on the streets, and we are constantly working to make our cities a better place to live.

The Binee Smart Bin & Mobile Application System gamifies waste separation and incentivizes consumers to be more environmentally responsible. When consumers throw their separated waste, such as plastic, paper or glass into our smart bins, the system credits them actual money proportional to the weight of their trash via Binee Mobile App. Our system empowers the user with several app functions, such as geo location of the bins, trash tracking, games and social media sharing. We also provide a filling level measurement option in order to optimise the logistics of waste management. Binee: enabling recycling!

Cardnanny

Smart City Planning is based on data analytics. The CardNanny project will help making sophisticated decisions by  visualizing essential parts and giving single facts context. CardNanny is a mapping tool for POIs and areas (shapes) – and will be able to import data from other fi-based standard formats. One prototype for this kind of tool has been our project http://zensuskarte.de.
We develop a framework of CARDNANNY including fine drawings of sources, backend and frontend. Our aim is to be able to show our idea by using real open data to interested people via a special website and to present it to possible clients. The uses case in all phases will be the map of germany.

CARDNANNY will be able to:
import SHP-Files (standard area mapping format)
import Point of Interest databases
import data from CKAN-Based data sources
visualize data points based on OpenStreetMap and other mapping Tools
visualize 2 or maybe more layers
maps can be embedded into other websites via iFrames
provide an easy way to enrich existing data with custom data
With CARDNANNY we’ll be able to create visualisations that help making sophisticated decisions for Smart City Projects.

Citizen Journalism

The digitalisation of moving image productions and their distribution has produced a whole range of new media services in recent years that – with YouTube at the fore – have led to a veritable boom in video content. Above all, a new generation of filmmakers is using the possibilities of modern technology to their own benefit: Many vloggers and young production companies, as well as cultural initiatives, local NGOs and companies produce large quantities of high-quality video material about events in their cities or relating to news from specific content areas on a daily basis. Material that could be very interesting for professional users such as media online portals, TV stations or publishers.

However, the exchange between new and established video producers remains difficult, as the possibilities for targeted searching for regional or specialised content on conventional video platforms is severely limited. Moreover, the very open nature of the content often results in large uncertainties in relation to copyright and licensing rights. A professional, systematic exchange between suppliers and consumers is therefore not possible. We want to enable this exchange with our project. It will act as a digital exchange for local and specialist video productions on which producers can actively market their content. Users are offered a clearer, more professional and legally secure service.

Cloudheizung

Our project aims to deliver a full inside view for the end-consumer of an average household and energy consultants regarding the energy efficiency from their surroundings.

We will combine different sensor-data on critical resource-consuming equipment. These data will be aggregated and abstracted. After uploading them to the cloud, every SEM user will be guaranteed access to their personal customized surrounding energy data.

Our main goal is to call attention to the energy consumption in our everyday life and encourage ourselves and our user to manage their valuable and partly unrecoverable energy resource meaningfully. We will provide informative data visualization about user consumption behavior, additional tips or methods for them in order to help them reducing their energy consumption.

croffee

Croffee = Crowd Funding for Educational Events

Croffee helps fans to meet their favorite teacher or artist by providing them a platform to crowd source their events, share with friends and invite their idol to their hometown. Croffee helps seminar facilitators, speakers, musicians – artists and instructors of any craft – to reach new, larger target audiences. It can be risky to offer seminars or concerts in uncharted waters. Booking venues and traveling is expensive. Many instructors and artists are freelancers, their income often fluctuates. Croffee provides a solution for all these problems at once.

Croffee helps speakers and artists to plan entire educational tours, ensuring that their travel is worthwhile and that they will get paid before the event. They can sell course and concert tickets, workshops and consulting time months upfront.
For audiences, it allows them to have first-hand interaction with their mentor, trainer or speaker without having to travel far away from home. It’s far more cost effective for the speaker to come to them, rather than the other way around. Croffee is also an ideal market research tool for event organisers; it’s possible for organisers to see whether their event will be a success before having to commit to any of the details.

Data Flow

Thanks to the Open Government / Open Data movements, administrations in many jurisdictions are publishing their data for citizens and companies to use. This is laudable – however, it’s not as useful as it could be. Publishing documents or datasets makes their reuse cumbersome and hard to organize. Transforming those data sources into a continous streaming data service that can be ingested, processed, visualized  and acted upon continuously will add value to those datasets.
We consider a set of one to three datasources as the minimum viable offering which we would dare to peddle to customers.

  • DATAFLOW will adds stream / event publishing to discontinuous open and closed data sources
  • Building on the Open Data / Open Government movement
  • providing Data Stream / Data Event publishing capabilities to Open Data portals
  • Enabling Data Stream publishing as a revenue source for businesses
  • Adding analysis / visualization services on top of the published data.

DataLook

In a world in which data has become ubiquitous, DataLook is a web platform that connects nonprofit managers and (local) government officials who want to implement data-driven solutions to their problems with (volunteer) data scientists and web developers who are inspired to replicate the projects showcased on DataLook.

In contrast to other directories which list data-driven projects for social good, our platform dramatically increases the chances of a project to be replicated by routing organizations/agencies directly to volunteers with the necessary skills (our USP).

We believe that we can maximize the number of replications by making it as easy as possible for organizations and agencies to understand the potential of data for solving their problems and to help them tap the potential of digital volunteers (our mission).

We strive for a world in which reusable data-driven projects for social good reach their utmost impact (our vision).

DocPointer

Huge structural elements on site needs a continuous reporting. Every detail, like a welding seam or a bore hole has to be cleared by an inspector or authorized person. Without clearance no structural element can be licensed to operate. The reporting has to clearly indicate the nominated subject and has to fulfil high legal requirements. Inspection procedures generate a high amount of data and reports (e.g. e-mails, photos, markings, documents, revision instructions), which are very difficult to manage.

The organization, handling and research of reports is time-consuming, expensive and error prone. The DocPointer simplifies the management of the deposition in a data base and the generated reports on site by allocating reports automatically in a secure database and provides a legal documentation history for auditing purposes. The process economizes time and reduces failures.

The DocPointer reduces production time, particularly the final approval of construction work. The application spectrum of the DocPointer is manifold (e.g. bridge construction, ship building, high-rise building). In this project the DocPointer uses the example of an offshore windfarm grounding. The erection of wind power stations (Tripods) requires very high legal efforts (comparable to marine technology). The reduction of production time saves thousands of Euros.

eTest Price App

Did you ever find yourself in an electronics store, looking at a product advertised as a bargain, and wondered not only if this is the best price? But if this is the product that best suits your needs? The eTest app will help you answer that question on the spot. Thanks to FIWARE technology, we are able to develop a mobile app for iOS and Android that fuses the benefits of both online and offline shopping – that is, on the one hand, the immediate availability and expert advice offered in a local store, and on the other hand, the impartial advice of product reviews and price comparisons only readily available on the internet.

Equipped with barcode scanning technology and drawing on the vast product database of www.eTest.de, the app will provide you with the best price, the most relevant product information, reviews from the press, an average rating based on these reviews as well as pros and cons. Furthermore, the app will suggest alternatives to you, i.e similar products that might be better suited for your individual needs and/ or that might be cheaper in another store nearby or online. In short, with the eTest app you will get all the information you need to make the best possible buying decision.

FairPiece

We want to create a crowdfunding platform for fair produced fashion and accessories. Creative designers submit their ideas and the crowd has the possibility to support the designers and buy the items. We address young fashion-oriented people, who set value on unique and beautiful fashion pieces created by creative designers.
If the minimum order quantity is reached within 30 days the campaign is successful. The designer gets his share of the successfully funded campaign and we take care of the production process by a certified supplier. As only the sold items will be produced, there is no waste through over-production. The pieces are manufactured under fair conditions for fair wages and consumers can be sure to have made their contribution to sustainable consumption. The designer can work without pressure and be creative. They don ́t have to worry about production, shipping or administrative things.

Our vision is to create an international well-known brand that stands for fair produced and stylish clothes and accessories.

Family Farming

Have you ever tried to grow your own vegetables? You could not bother or already failed? We give people the opportunity to grow their own food, even if they have limited time, space or experience, as it is often the case in urban areas. Although urbanization has caused many people to live without direct contact to agriculture, many citizens set high value in healthy food, and they are aware of the importance of sustainable and organic cultivation. The Family Farming application approaches this task by a combination of a smart raised-bed gardening box, called the Agrarium, with a wireless web and mobile application that guides the user to a successful harvest. Sensors within the Agrarium provide data about temperature, luminosity or nutritional value which are evaluated and illustrated by selected FIWARE software solutions. Our project guarantees a successful farming experience to people who wish to produce their own food and helps to re-establish an awareness not only for the importance of sustainable food but also for the complex challenge of urban agriculture.

FI-Factory-3D

Our vision is to have lean 3D printing factories all over Europe. Therefore we design the software and infrastructure to manage a whole farm of large scale 3D printers. We build large scale 3D printers and with FIWARE, we will manage the control of the printer farm.

The management dashboard provides an overview of the printing farm, shows status information for each device, monitors print processes and reacts automatically on pre-defined events. It is fully integrated with the business ERP system, which manages customer records, communication and billing, order management and resource scheduling.

The whole system has event  based behavior. With FIWARE we can implement this system in a short amount of time and use the powerful resources of FIWARE Generic Enablers. Our 3D printing technology is open source. So in addition to our fast developers we have the large community of FIWARE developers and 3D printing enthusiasts which drive development at an enormous speed, keeping us always top of the edge.

You name it. We print it.

firstCarity

Demographic change is leading to a massive increase in the number of elderly people requiring care and assistance. 70% of currently 2,6 million people in need of care stay at home. And home care will increase strongly not least because of the gain of dementia. In Germany every day 100 persons come down with dementia. Thus the number of persons who care for somebody in their families is increasing even more, often resulting in a clash between professional, family-related and care commitments. These persons, mostly women, need relief to manage their everyday life and stay sane.

We will help to solve this problem by a geographically based internet platform combined with a mobile application: Senior citizens and especially their relatives or friends will obtain fast and easy access to day-to-day assistance from local sources. firstCarity offers access to all help offers in a region, which are available within the shortest time frame at one glance –and put customers in touch with both professional and voluntary providers. Under “immediate assistance” they can find high quality providers within a time frame of one hour. firstCarity provides details of voluntary (no-cost) providers free of charge and supports helpers with education and trainings.

foodnav.de

foodnav.de endeavours to help people suffering from food allergies and intolerances. To make it easier for them to find suitable products, we will create an online database of food products and the possibility to search within that database for products that do not include the ingredients one cannot eat. Additionally, foodnav.de will offer valuable content that food-allergic people are always looking for, i.e. recipes, shopping guides and product reviews. In the near future, foodnav.de strives to be the No. 1 information website for people with food allergies and intolerances.

The foodnav.de team consists of longtime allergy sufferer, lifestyle blogger and web enthusiast Alexander Wolff, who serves as the team leader, and his experienced team under the roof of the longtime operating internet and consulting company Target Up. GastroHunter.Eu

GastroHunter.EU is a cloud platform for gastronomies who want to motivate current customers to visit more frequently and attract new customers by providing special offers.

GastroHunter.EU builds customer communities around local gastronomies and engages them in a form of social gaming. We make getting great offers on food and drinks fun. The whole process is hassle-free both for the customers and for the gastronomy owners. We also reduce the carbon footprint by replacing paper leaflets, promotion coupons and loyalty cards with digital ones.

GastroHunter.EU works using Bluetooth Low Energy beacons that are placed in a gastronomy. With an easy to use web interface, gastronomy owners define special offers for new and loyal customers. The magic begins when a customer with the GastroHunter.EU app installed walks by the venue. He receives a special offer on his mobile device encouraging him to go inside. After spending money in the venue the customer advances to the next level using another beacon installed by the counter. When he starts to frequent the gastronomy, the offers he receives get more attractive. To keep the highest access level customers have to visit the gastronomies on a regular basis.

Gerabo

Two years ago, the team behind Gerabo was not satisfied with existing customer loyalty systems based on cards or apps which had mostly been set up to collect customer data. It was time for “The most honest loyalty card/ app in the world” – it is anonymous.

So far we can present a number of 7,500 issued cards of which 70% are in regular use. Nearly 2 million Euros worth transactions and 25,000 Euros prepaid volume show that customers appreciate the anonymous use. The Gerabo card combines pre-paid, vouchers, gift cards, reward cards and a social couponing option cleverly, by applying our SaaS loyalty backend.

It has never been so easy for merchants to us all these features combined; they only need a smart phone at point of sale (POS).

Naturally we gained in depth knowledge of integrating our system with existing cashiers. This makes Gerabo highly attractive for supermarkets. The first nationwide go-live for a supermarket chain is planned for 2015.

Just recently we have established a cooperation with a wholesaler as well as a cashier manufacturer. This cooperation is going to generate growth in the company. Therefore, we are happy to use FIWARE technology to make our service scalable.

German Ocean Foundation

Activating crowds and connecting them with experts and organizations is a key success factor of produc-tivity in all fields but especially in the fairly new active-tion field of the oceans. The German Ocean Foundation will enforce the existing capacities of activist and organizations within the EU by providing access to those who are willing to assist and donate free time. For this we will develop the time donation app “CharyTime” with which you can donate time for local projects or for digital support of organizations they want to support.

Smart cities have to activate their inhabitants to do more for the environment in their region. Those people have become less active in engaging in politics and volunteer work. When our team of experts gathered last year we combined the existing idea of establishing the German Ocean Foundation with the grassroots activation idea. Our concept was met with great enthusiasm and support. Donations were announced by sponsors such as Frank Otto (member of the OTTO family) or Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Hartmut Graßl (former member of the Advisory Council on Global Change to the German Government)

Hi! App

Imagine you could influence positively your community, city or even your favourite companies with the data that you generate on a daily bases. If communities could do so, they could steer the way cities are planned and organized. Or simply imagine after doing sport, you could easily share your physical activity data with your health insurance and medics. You could receive a tailored service according to your needs. Personal data sharing is a current trend and it will continue to grow, most of this data is multimedia and it is mostly for entertaining purposes. What if one could do more with ones data? This would have a great impact. Wearables such as Smart Watches and Smart Wristbands have already interesting applications, but there is a big room for innovation for the end user.

We believe that wearables will become mainstream and we want to build a software solution for it. Wearables and Smartphones generate sensor data. We want to build an new generation application that enables users to share this data not just with friends, but also with their communities and open data portals. Our focus will be on user data privacy and security. With our application users will be the only ones who decide which data to share and with whom. For developing our Android based application we will use the FIWARE. This platform is useful for this project because it provides an open and free framework with specific tools for the backend of our application.

Ibaround

IBaround was born to answer the increasing demand of travellers to individualise their experience all along their journey. Our solution also addresses the need of airport ecosystems to increase the non-aeronautical revenues, which are a more and more important part of their business model.
IBaround is here thanks to the evolution of Big Data to Smart Data. We have now at our disposal an increasing set of sensors, bringing us valuable information and giving us the ability to deliver segmented messages at a precise moment and location.

The role of IBaround is to create a platform that will deliver contextual marketing activities by triggering two steps.

  1. Gather the information harvested from the sensors (time, location, behaviour), and crosses it with various databases such as customer profile, CRM system, social media information and with the sensors from the Orion sensor networks
  2. Deliver marketing actions based on pre-filled filters set on the platform.

Local Election

The startup project “local election” is an innovative Video Candidate Comparison and will provide an internet platform to compare candidates of political and institutional elections via videos all over Europe.

Election candidates are comparable by two-minute videos. Users can see the number of video hits and a “Like-Button” counting. Under the video they can move to the Candidate Profile.

Candidates pay a fee to install the video on this platform. Beside that the project generates earnings with internet marketing.

The Video Candidate Comparison will help citizens to find their candidate to vote in 6 to 10 minutes – online.

“Local election” will provide a more transparent election campaign and helps the candidates to present themselves to a wider public. Democracies in smarter cities will be strengthened.

Mederest

We want to build a central platform for patient-relevant as well as professional health issues with a moderated bulletin board for discussions and personal stories and narrations. Users will have the chance to ask questions and provide answers and support for other users. The platform offers research modules, with and without moderation. Users will be able to publish videos, images and text posts as well as participate in polls. They can also subscribe to topics that interest them.

The platform will also provide additional services on health care, such as a calendar widget for doctor’s appointments.

There is a lot of potential for further expansion of the services, for example a rental calendar for medical equipment with a return station for products that are no longer in use included, or, a phase IV platform, where experiences and observations with pharmaceutical products or devices could be shared.

Our diverse team is evenly balanced and provides all the essential know how required for this project. Furthermore, every team member has an international network that allows him to transport the idea and experience with the FIWARE-environment across the border.

The service can be used through mobile apps for iOS and Android devices.

meepmee is a service that also provides high value for sporting facilities. Its users are highly focused and determined. meepmee therefore is an optimal platform to appeal to potential new members.

NIF

Our target is on developing a notification and information function (NIF) which measures the movement of e. g. packages or the change of object conditions to inform its owners and to give them the possibility to steer the system in a way they want: The user can determine, who will be informed in what way. The NIF can be used as stand alone device for different household appliances, like our package box, in the Smart Home and Smart Cities context.

The NIF will be used for three different kind of use cases: First of all for products like our package box (B2C), second as an after-market equipment for owners of letter- and package boxes (B2C) and other suppliers of letter- and package boxes (B2B), and third for service providers, using the IT-based platform of the NIF-system, to enhance it with their additional software services of smart home solutions. The NIF-software and cloud-based services will be open through FIWARE-GEs for our B2B-costumers to be connected with their additional software services.

OEEX

The team composition can be described as a perfect match to the projects objectives, which are namely the technical development, social bonding and finally business skyrocketing, needed to fullfil the OEEX mission: Giving a face to energy and empowering people to consume the energy they trust in. With a strong focus on technical abilities, there are three members – Jochen, Tobias and Marco – which are able to develop and evaluate technical processes, approaches and propositions. All of them feature experiences in web technologies and distributed systems and their underyling communication. With different backgrounds, ranging from the built-up of small to medium sized enterprises, up to the engagement and leading of multinational large-volume public projects – the team features experiences in a wide range of different enterprise structures and cultures. As the social engineering component, regarding marketing, sales and social media communication is of high importance in the project, Maike will act as the dooropener in many situations, playing a central role in all processes including external communications. When it comes to explaining technical facts and business models to less tech-savvy or entrepreneurial minded project partners, Maike is in her metier.

OSC

Onacci offers a new consumer oriented digital service, a next generation social media network. Onacci will revolutionize the way people browse the Internet by bringing social media to each and every page on the net. Users will be able to meet each other, see how similar their interests are, and communicate in a much richer way than possible today. Onacci allows users to seamlessly get in touch with each other over a common context, e.g. a web page, a type of web page or an interest. The user interacts with other Internet users on a page by e.g. commenting on an article or drawing a doodle on a picture. If users want to talk directly to each other, it is possible through video or text, directly in the browser with Onacci.

Onacci is realized through three main software components: a browser extension, a backend cloud-based server system, and a web portal. The browser extension is instrumental in enabling Onacci to be available everywhere on the web, and it provides the main interface for users to the service. The web portal is used as a gateway for new users, presenting the service and allowing them to sign up. Existing users can get a feed showing a summary of what has happened on the Social Web since their last visit. The back-end server allows Onacci to profile users and connect them to each other.

Phantominds

In the era of a digitalized and globalized world, finding the “next big thing” innovation is the success factor for companies, but nowadays companies waste money and competitors’ advantage by having a product and innovation flop ratio of 70-90%. In addition, no easy way exists so far to identify and integrate external resources into a company’s innovation process, such as experts or customers perspectives.

PhantoMinds offers the solution – an online crowdsourcing community where the company’s clients together with talents and experts create the next innovations, i.e. digital products, services and business model innovations.

PhantoMinds offers companies using their community or software/platform the possibility to develop ideas and innovation by using the perspective, expertise and knowledge from their community and/or within the company/client. To integrate experts including lead user and early adopter in the respective field of a company, we develop a “self learning algorithm” to identify via data points (e.g. specific forums) these experts for the companies and their challenges. PhantoMinds provides the surrounding to make the process fun, fair for the community and customer focused for the company by using an own developed method and incentive scheme.

PlasticWasteInRivers

Today, hardly any threat to the oceans is as visible as the pollution of water by plastic waste debris. In less than 100 years, the initially highly acclaimed material has changed our blue planet irretrievably. Today far too much plastic ends up in our rivers, lakes and oceans. Nevertheless, only recently the plastic pollution has been recognized as an emerging problem. But while each one of us can help to tackle this problem, many people do not know how they can contribute. There is a lack of communication and for this reason our project will create a new interactive information and exchange platform.

In blogs and forums questions such as, “Why are plastics dangerous? What can I do to help?” will be discussed. We will visualize events and opportunities for participation, good practice examples and integrate maps, pictures and videos. This platform will not only make the common man aware of the hazards plastics pose on our environment but, other stakeholders such as politicians, NGOs, entrepreneurs and scientists will be involved to support and undertake the exchange of their goals. Conservation begins at home and we will help to make it possible.

Protector

Due to different social phenomenon and especially the ageing of Europe, there is an in increasing need for different types of caregiving services, esp. in a modern urban environment (Smart City), starting from rather simple tasks of observing some daily activities (e.g. controlling breathing of caretaker during walking), till detecting some critical behaviour of caretakers (e.g. falling down). We argue that smart cities, as places where an enormous majority of caretakers live, have to provide a solid infrastructure for the realization of such caregiving services, especially through the provision of different types of information which are relevant for caretakers and their health status: (location, activity type, heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, fall detection, environmental conditions).

We propose a mobile solution which will reuse the smart city information infrastructure for the provisioning of monitoring-based caregiving services based on a novel technology for hybrid complex event processing, partially implemented using FIWARE technology, which enables continuous personalized and proactive monitoring of caretakers, including alarming caregivers and families before some critical situation might happen. The main goal is to increase the quality of life and safety of caretakers, but also their families who will be very interested in paying for such remote monitoring. The system will be provided as Solution as a Service, including a mobile app, server-side and web-portal parts, with the main revenue streams coming from subscription fees and advertisement.

We use scrapers or (where possible) API data consumer applications on FIWARE server infrastructure to gather sets of data – traffic information for instance needs to be turned into a consistent database format via an API. Environmental sensors are another exciting source of data, e.g. air quality sensors – these are increasingly available through real-time interfaces.

For a first prototype we want to focus on readily available information from the authorities in Hamburg. The list of available sources will be screened for easy availability, high data quality and frequency and public relevance.
The media profession is undergoing a crucial transformation – fewer and fewer resources are available, and yet they are needed more than ever as more and more channels need to be served and special interest content needs to be produced. New device categories such as smart watches or data glasses about to become ubiquitous. Usage habits increasingly depend on their various devices – and go hand in hand with shortening attention spans as news streams like Facebook’s and Twitter’s become commonplace. This in turn leads to a new expectation towards media contents: relevant news need to find their way to the reader – not the other way around.

Save Seed Diversity

Within the last 30 years the diversity of culture plants such as vegetables, grains, rice and corn came under considerable pressure. There are more than 30.000 eatable plants, but only nine crops cover 75% of today’s worldwide food supply. The existence of many valuable culture plants is highly endangered. SAVE SEED DIVERSITY supports ecological awareness and benefits economically from a growing market. The SAVE SEED DIVERSITY App makes rare seeds available. This innovative application functions as an exchange platform. Breeders sell services and products to customers, cultivators and fellow breeders.

SeeBat WebForest

A fill-sensor for waste-containers. Collection of waste will be at least 30% more efficient, if you would know how full a container really is. And what about the messy places where the containers are full and people can only place their waste around the container.

The Seebat is a sensor that measures how full a waste-container is and reports this to a central website called the Webforest. A clear overview in a map of these containers with their current fill-level, makes it easy to plan the most efficient route for the trucks, to collect this waste. Because you know how much waste you have to collect, you can make the trucks’ routing

much more efficient. Trucks drive less kilometres to collect more waste. Less CO2 and no more annoyance when people have to squeeze their waste in containers that are already full.

The Seebat sensor has its own power supply and operates completely independent. Communication is done by standardized protocols with an existing network, or with the advanced FIWARE-network.

A small sensor in a waste-container will make the collection of waste far more efficient and will save tons of CO2 and thousands of kilometres.

SENS-O-COPTER

SENS-O-COPTER is a long endurance UAV (Unmanned aerial vehicle, Multicopter) designed to acquire and deliver multiple sensory data in situations and areas where manned inspection is too costly, dangerous or even not possible. The UAV and the sensor-unit are based on open-source Hard- and Software to keep the development time low and to benefit from proven designs. The system will be tailored to our special needs: rain and snow resistant, long endurance, flight time up to 90 min, long range, up to 50km (one way). The gathered data (temperature, air pressure, altitude, GPS position, air quality, hydrogen sulphide, magnetic field, UV-, visible-, NIR- and IR-camera, radioactive level) will be sent over WLAN/LTE into the cloud to store the data. The user can use a web interface to display the processed data (combined with GPS/Time) on a map. Possible applications: Environmental monitoring, air quality, emissions, contaminated areas, radioactive levels, gas leakages, civil protection, weather data, volcano research, natural disaster, mobile network signal strength, quality control, documentation purposes.

SENSORHOME

SENSORHOME will create a unique marketplace, a custom made Dashboard tailored to clients’ requirements/needs, where all data collected in buildings can be collected and utilised to extrapolate behaviour analysis.

SENSORHOME dashboard will also provide individualised windows to the tenants of the individual units (offices and/or apartments). Tenants will thus be informed at any point in time of their consumption, state of each device (need maintenance?), efficiency levels.

In the first expansion stage we will work on our prototype and make all data sources usable via a joint interface – that is: Light control, heating control, motion and humidity sensors. Reading and controlling will be possible through a command line interface. Additionally a simple visualisation is provided for presenting the data visually (Dashboard).

Sentibar

Smart Cities are powered by information streams. The jobs of many people rely on accurate and timely information about opinions – among them product developers and business developers, journalists, researchers and politicians. Yet, there is no one place that provides the latest information about public opinion easily, valid and fast. sentibar closes that gap. sentibar uses smart algorithms to collect information about opinions and attitudes from surveys and opinion polls. sentibar starts as a news aggregator and will gradually add features towards creating a proper data hub. The data hub offers users access to survey results and to complete data sets.

Interactive visualization and reporting are further features that improve the user experience. The vision is that we enhance data quality, provide data access and therefore improve the opportunities for action of our users. But sentibar does not stop there. We are passionate about surveys and we want to reveal hidden information. Users provide us with their interests so that we can deliver tailored information products. We see who is interested in the same topics and we can use this information to connect people with the same interests, building powerful knowledge clusters for Smart Cities around opinion data.

Sponsoo

Sponsoo wants to improve the funding situation of sport people in the EU and create new marketing opportunities for SMEs. In order to achieve these goals, Sponsoo will provide a data-driven online market place for sport sponsorship.

Individual athletes, sports teams, clubs, or associations can create a profile on www.sponsoo.com and define sponsorship offers. SMEs can browse all the available offers and purchase the ones that best match their marketing needs.

With the data collection tools available to an online market place, Sponsoo wants to provide affordable measurement tools to sponsors of any size. This will improve the marketing options of SMEs. Moreover, it will make smaller sponsorship deals more lucrative, thus improving the funding situation of grassroots sports organisations and individual athletes. This is creating jobs: For many currently semi-professional athletes, Sponsoo can be the tool they need to finally become a pro..

swop-it

When we are looking at today’s society, we observe growing gaps between social classes. In Germany, journalists speak about 1.6 million kids (aged under 15) living in poverty. Other European countries show similar numbers. The EU study in 2006 had shown a total of 19 million kids in Europe living under the poverty line. It seems essential for us – especially in a highly developed nation and/or union – to take over social responsibility for these circumstances in order to improve these figures. Thus, we thought about the possibility to establish an IT-based charity system allowing an intelligent contribution of used goods in good condition: “Recycle with Love” became our motto in order support kids and families in need.

Therefore, we developed the idea of a “modern, multi-functional charity platform”: a) meeting the needs of a modern social-driven thinking (“social/charitable networking”), b) allowing to connect social strata, c) streamlining social engagement on a nationwide basis in the beginning and pan-European in the future, d) developing – as a positive side-effect – new ways of a employability and decentralised warehousing. Our project addresses different target groups to guarantee a nationwide coverage, i.e. our system includes databases for socially deprived families, institutions working on the private-public sector (prisons, women’s houses etc.) and last but not least those families contributing to the system.

TransparenSeeds

TRANSPARENSEEDS is a cooperative community to produce and consume sustainable cotton products.

We connect farmers with consumers and build a friendship between producing and consuming countries. We don´t need a certificate to prove our reliability for our fair trade attitude. Every costumer can follow each step of production by using the online community and so trace the supply chain and a fair salary. The low price of our products, which makes us competitive, is the result of avoiding any middleman and the renunciation of an own high salary.
To prove that this way to produce and consume is our main priority. By using a complex tracking system every person and workstation is getting involved with each other. The main pain for costumers is the price, the solution is to sell at the lowest break even for the first delivery. Cotton Basics are necessary to dress comfortable, warm, and use them for more than 12 month. The quality of sewing, and the quality of yarn is one of the best. Our believe is, that Transparenseeds will change the textile-industry. Consumers become equal by taking part of the supply chain by choosing a new sustainable economic system.

Traqmy.sport

The use of virtual reality for the presentation of sports is quite a new application deployed in the last 20 years. With the development and distribution of smartphones nowadays (and smartglasses in near future), the numbers of possibilities are growing. In the field of augmented reality, there are in particular some gaps to fill, so the idea was born to use our expertise in geo-tracking and data-management-systems to provide augmented reality application for sports presentation.

Smartphones are all around in the city. Using a small environment like a sporting event gives us precious experiences for future use, leading us to a common use of this technology in a smarter city.

Traqmy.sports is an all in one geo-tracking solution for outdoor sports like running, cycling, skiing, sailing or motorsports. Collecting geo-data from many mobile devices, the web-based application provides processed data for different uses.

  1. A web-application for the event manager providing him all informations, that helps him observing or directing the event.
  2. A web-application for home-audiences virtually following the sports event.
  3. A mobile-application using augmented reality to provide extra information to on-site audiences.

TENEO

We are developing a mobile app that helps business travellers to capture travel expenses and per diems faster and more intelligently.

Our app is smart and connected. Smart because it learns where you travel to. This makes capturing receipts much faster as the app automatically makes intelligent suggestions for required data (e.g. issuers, classifications, and many more). And it even calculates your per diems from your receipts.

It’s connected with you co-workers, your boss and accountants, and even with your Taxi driver’s smartphone or ticket machines of public transport. This makes communication with everyone involved in the travel expense process much easier and faster.

On top of that, our app is built on an extremely flexible framework which makes it easy to set up a customised app for our clients. Our app can truly adapt to the client’s processes and IT-infrastructure. Furthermore, thanks to the flexible framework we can set up our app for clients in minutes, saving our clients huge upfront costs and tedious implementation projects.

Tybo

For thousands of years, it has been the job of libraries to preserve knowledge for future generations. Printed books are the bricks which the house of our human knowledge is built of. But libraries simply cannot digitise all their books; the British Library, for instance, has 150 million books which can be ordered.

In the scope of this project, we will develop the perfect mobile app to search for books and order them. We want to combine the possibilities of FI-WARE, cloud infrastructure and open-source technology to build an extraordinary user experience.

Once the right book has been found, all it takes is one click to order the book from the library of your choice. We will develop a framework to connect the interfaces of different types of Integrated Library Systems (ILS). Our solution will send you a push notification when your book is ready for pickup.

We want to build a great book app which will allow you to like books, recommend books to your friends and get updates from your favourite libraries. The app is designed for a growing number of languages and different types of libraries. Therefore, students and other book lovers can use the app in different cities and countries to have access to the library system.
